Blog Post #7- Plant Update and Meiosis

It seems the parent plants for this plant were taller, and maybe stronger. If I knew what the parent plants looked like I might be able to make a punnett square and see what traits the offspring get. The parents would give the offspring each a certain amount of chromosomes. These chromosomes then split up through a process called meiosis. Meiosis is a process where cells copy chromosomes and divide until the pairs of chromosomes are split and the cells are turned into sex cells, or gametes. Most of the plants in the garden look different because they each had different parents. There are countless different possibilities that the plant could have turned out.

Blog Post #6- How Does Your Garden Grow?

All of the plants in the garden have increased greatly over these couple months. I'm sure that the increase in biomass had to do with cell division. The plants' cell count have all increased using mitosis increasing biomass. Most of this starts with photosynthesis, the plant will make energy with the sun and give the cells enough energy to multiply and slowly have the plants grow.

Blog Post #5- Plant Update

The Broccoli has grown immensely over the past couple weeks with the leaves increasing in size and has grown taller. The leaves are more now of a forest green. When we first saw it, it was only a seed, now it has grown so much and is doing better than most of the plants. I also saw many organisms around it living off of it, for instance I saw a ladybug on one of the leaves. The stem is a very sturdy stem and shows no signs of breaking.

Blog Post #4- Ecological View on the Garden

Our plant, along with all the other plants in the garden, are affected by abiotic and biotic factors. Some of the biotic factors are the amount bugs that choose to feed on the plant and snails that also eat it. Some abiotic factors are the amount of sunlight and rain the plant gets. A lot of these plants are in constant competition for things like sun and water because of the limited space. Mostly it is easy to tell which plants have the better position because they will grow faster than the other, it never seems to be to hard to tell. Creatures like snails are a part of this competition because they'll choose the better pant to feed off of. It does seem like there are other plants that are sprouting up around the garden.

Blog Post #3- Diff. cycles and Plant Update

The plant this week is smaller than the other plants, but has grown significantly. It has many more leaves sprouting on it that are helping it grow. The water cycle is definitely affecting the plant because the soil is dry because of the drought and we were getting less rain. The carbon cycle also is affecting it because it could be getting less CO2 and not making as much food as it should. Lastly, it is affecting the nitrogen cycle because is it is receiving nitrogen and breaking it down with bacteria.

Blog Post #2 -Project Description

This project's purpose is to see a seed grow overtime and record all of its growth. This is a good thing because it lets us have the feeling of giving an object life and watching it grow. Also, we get to learn all of the obstacles plants go through in their lives and see the factors that affect them. These plants can also inspire us to make our own gardens and help the environment.
